I laughed out loud. I smiled tenderly. And, most of all, I finished reading this delightful book relaxed and feeling good after a stressful day.

Fast paced, full of down-to-earth human moments, and yet peppered with steamy romance, this contemporary romance by Claire Robyns delivered exactly what it promised: a fun, flirty and fabulous read.

I was drawn to Ms Robyns writing through her brilliant debut novel, the historical Scottish romance 'Betrayed'. The light-hearted 'Second Guessing Fate' is as far from that emotionally intense historical as it could possibly be, but one is left amazed at Ms Robyns versatility as a writer. 'Second Guessing Fate' may be a happy romp through the love story of the delicious Nick and the cute Gemma, but the characters have both depth and authenticity.

I'd highly recommend this novel to anyone who needs a fun read to wipe away the stress of real life.

SecondGuessing Fate edition by Claire Robyns Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Ms. Robyns writes fresh, feel-good romance. Her characters are engaging and well-drawn. Gemma (the heroine), is warm and witty, and readers can instantly relate to her. Nick (the hero), is super-sexy and knows exactly what he wants. The interaction between Nick and Gemma is fun and flirty, with a delicious dollop of sensuality. Ms. Robyns has a real flair for writing dialogue, and the sparkling attraction between Nick and Gemma had me turning the pages into the wee hours of the morning. I really enjoyed this story, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a book that makes you laugh and cry with delight! I look forward to reading more books from this talented new author of romance!
This book reminded me so much of the movie How to Lost a Guy in 10 Days, only better.
Instead of two people making ridiculous bets with their friends and co-workers we have the formidable Madame Hooch and her unpredictable predictions and mysterious ways.
I really loved the characters in this story. I liked Gemma and thought she was a great character. I liked watching her grow through out the story and I loved her antics with Nicholas. Some of them were out right crazy and funny.
And Nick, well Nick was just swoon worthy and such a great guy. It was hard not to love him and feel bad for him and sometimes even want to slap him.
This was such a fun book that was hard to put down and read well quickly. It was definitely a great story and I will be looking for more from the author in the future.
Gemma doesn't believe in Fate or Fortune-tellers, but when she is dragged to Madam Hooch she grudgingly goes along with it. Gemma doesn't believe a word of it--I mean, come on! She hasn't even met this dark and handsome man who will break her heart! Who wants heartbreak? But when other predictions start to come true, Gemma is beginning to suspect that gorgeous, grey-eyed Nick is the one foretold to break her heart. So, to jump start the time when she can finally meet her soul mate, Gemma is going to do anything and everything to get this hottie to dump her so she can then meet the man of her dreams. Nick is stupefied by some of Gemma's antics and runs to his married buddies who all explain to him that that is just how women are--and Nick always goes back. He's lived the bachelor lifestyle, never lived with a woman, and is surprised by all that goes into beauty--but because it's Gemma, he doesn't care. He just wants to be with her, crazy nut-case antics and all.

SECOND GUESSING FATE was a fun, light-hearted story. When Gemma meets Nick leaving the Fortune-teller's office, she is immediately suspicious. Yes, he is gorgeous and very interested, but she doesn't like putting herself out there. She was engaged before, was left at the Alter, and is too busy with her own business to bother about dating. But Madam Hooch's words bounce around her head, as well as her girlfriend's, Helen, who is pushing her to break her heart so she can then find her soul mate. So, Gemma takes the plunge.

Gemma was so funny to watch. She would get comfortable in her relationship with Nick and realize she couldn't afford to--her soul mate was out there waiting on her! She needed to fast track the break-up on THIS relationship so she could get to her Happily Ever After. So she would do all the crazy girlfriend things like inviting herself to move into his place, changing all the food in the fridge, refusing to do laundry, all the gross beauty routines, and more. Each time she did Nick would freeze up and run for the hills. Gemma would think "ah, finally. He's going to break up with me now." Only, Nick would talk with his married buddies who would explain to the bachelor that all women are crazy and would rationally explain what women really were like and did. So, Nick would come back ready to recommit--much to Gemma's chagrin.

Even though there was a lot of craziness on Gemma's part, she was a very likable character. Even though Nick kept coming back, he never seemed like a pansy who lets Gemma walk all over him. He's never really tried at a relationship before, so he panics. When he stops and thinks things through, he always comes back to the realization that he really likes Gemma and tries to understand things from her POV. Because of that, he wants to work through things.

There did get to a point where Gemma's antics were just too much for me, and I stopped reading. I didn't pick up the story again for about a month and was glad to find out that THAT was the very last of Gemma's shenanigans. She finally grows up and realizes she is the architect of her own destiny.

The ending was nicely done, but at the same time I wish it were slightly different. I really can't say why without giving spoilers, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone. This story reminded me a bit of How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days, but better because of the character development and depth of emotion.

But all in all, this was a fun and hilarious romantic story about out running Fate and trying to find one's soul mate.
I chose this rating as I loved the book.
I would suggest this book to people that enjoys Daniele Steele books
Too cute! Made me laugh, sigh almost even cry. Gemma and Nick are a hilarious combination of insecurity and the need to find that special someone...no matter how many toads you have to side swipe to get there!!
Claire Robyns has a fresh, flirty style that made this book un-put-downable for me. It's a light-hearted romance that never lags, and had me smiling right to the very end. The story is contemporary and fun, and reminiscent of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy read, a touch of humour, and a definite feel-good feeling.
