A sack of ancient gold coins and valuable jewelry, including an exquisite, rare brooch is stolen from the Moretti family in Tropea, Italy. The year is 1910. Of the three thieves, only one survives ... and he only because he flees for sanctuary to a local monastery but not before carefully hiding the sack of valuables.

Several years go by before he can secretly pass information about the hidden treasure to Ophelia, his childhood sweetheart. She quickly retrieves it. The Moretti family soon learns what has happened and set out after her with vengeful hearts. Ophelia and her younger sister flee for their lives to America.

Decades later, a young female college student at the University of Notre Dame, who has received the brooch as part of an inheritance, visits the Museum of Art in Chicago where her attention is drawn to a fifteenth-century Italian painting. The subject is an aristocratic woman who appears to be wearing a brooch. Her brooch! Confused and excited, she begins a flurry of investigations to determine how that could possibly be.

Eventually, she travels to Italy and try to solve the puzzle. There she meets a mysterious band of gypsies and discovers answers she could never have dreamed of.

Although this book was entertaining, The Slave Tag (of which Ophelia's Brooch is a sequel) was much more my favorite. It was a book that was very hard to put down and also had you guessing what would happen next. Ophelia's Brooch, on the other hand, was a good story but one you could almost guess what was going to be the outcome.

OPHELIA'S BROOCH edition by Robert Buckley Gary Anderson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I totally enjoyed Ophelia's Brooch! The story moves at a quick pace, with many unexpected turns! The characters were vivid and life-like. I could picture them as I read the book. The characters were unique and full of personality. I had a difficult time putting the book down! I'm looking forward to Mr. Buckley's next book!
A mystery covering hundreds of years is solved by a group of friends. The characters are believeable and current, and the story is well thought out and developed. The narratives of Italian and American families are true to life. The description of the locales is well researched and rich. A very good read from start to finish.
I found this book to be full of intrigue -- yet heartwarming. It moves quickly and features a character from Buckley's first book, "The Slave Tag." Now a University of Notre Dame college student, Mariama makes a discovery about her valuable inherited brooch. That new information moves the story along through unexpected experiences and, of all things, takes her to Italy where she is summoned by gypsies! I enjoy the writing style -- it moves quickly -- and he kept me intrigued to the end. This book will be enjoyed by a wide range of ages -- high school students to the elderly. I consider Buckley to be a "master storyteller." A very good book. Hope he continues writing more!
Loved Bob's first book, The Slave Tag and enjoyed how he kept the story going in Ophelia's Brooch. I especially like the fact that the book is rated G .. no bad language. Thank you, Mr. Buckley.
I had read and enjoyed The Slave Tag which lead into this book. Very different from the first book, but thoroughly enjoyable reading. A nice romance with mystery. Buckley's style is very easy to read and follow. Hopefully he has more fiction in the works.
This book is a page turner and well worth reading. The characters and the story line are intriguing and I love that I was able to follow the characters that we met in "The Slave Tag". We read this book for a book club discussion and appreciate that the book is G rated. The author did a lot of research to create this story that spans from 1485 to the present. Well done, Robert Buckley!
Good story, good research, good outcome! Jane Austin style love story without graphic description. Minimal violence. Would make a good movie for a family.
The writing is very visual. It makes you want to turn the page to see what happens next.
